Families and friends of those who have gone missing during
the past few years gathered in front of the United Nations office in Colombo
recently, and participated in a sit – down protest against the disappearances.
Mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, brothers, sisters and wives of all
communities, whose loved ones have been disappeared, urged the United Nations
Organisation to deliver justice. Emotional relatives of the disappeared demanded
accountability by prosecuting the people responsible for enforced
disappearances
“Give us
JUSTICE; bring our loved ones ALIVE!”, “We need JUSTICE; not EXCUSES!“The war
is over, but our loved ones have not yet returned home!”, “Where is my
husband?”; “Where is my father?” ‘Where is my brother?” protesters demanded
and pleaded.
The silent protest was jointly organized by Prageeth
Eknaligoda’s family, along with Families of the Disappeared and the Committee
for Investigating Disappearances (CID) to mark 1000th day since the
disappearance of cartoonist Prageeth
Eknaligoda, who went missing on 24th
January 2010.
